At its core is a highly empowering idea – that human beings, like all organic beings, come into this world with a set of needs and innate resources “givens”. If those needs are met appropriately and resources used wisely, it reduces the likelihood of becoming mentally ill.
By experiencing life, we gain knowledge of how to deal with certain situations but sometimes that understanding is not enough to guide us through. In Human Givens therapy we are showing how to change unhelpful thinking styles and help clients take a different perspective on their situation; problem-solving, pointing to whatever lessons are required to build on coping skills and removing unwanted trapped memories of trauma using the rewind technique.
Sessions involve active engagement between client and therapist to “build the bridge” and are led by what you want to talk about. We set positive achievable goals.
