Social prescribing is about linking people up to social or physical activities in their community with a wide range of benefits to improve health and wellbeing, reduce obesity and social isolation.
Green therapy is a pilot project developed by Forest of Hearts to evaluate a model of social prescribing in Stratford upon Avon District, set in the Secret Garden of Lifeways Centre, which will:
- Promote mental health and well-being
- Promote activities that reduce obesity and obesity related long term conditions
- Address rural and social isolation
Forest of Hearts will provide a training event for up to 20 health and social care professionals and/or Age UK Navigators to experience the Garden Gym and Grow Creative activities in order to help to promote the service and provide feedback.
There will be a network of outdoor activities and run weekly Garden Gym and Grow Creative sessions so that up to 40 people can be referred/be offered opportunities to carry out gardening tasks and do creative activities which provide regular gentle outdoor exercise.
