In both counselling and psychotherapy, an initial consultation is held for you and the therapist to meet face to face. During this meeting, the therapist will hear about the sorts of issues and concerns you wish to bring to the sessions, and can decide whether counselling/psychotherapy is the best way forward. The therapist will talk about his/her own way of working and will discuss practical aspects of the sessions too. There is no commitment made until you are happy with your counsellor or psychotherapist and ready to work together.

The purpose of psychotherapy is to enable people to explore primarily through talking, past and present psychological, emotional and relationship difficulties. There are two ways this can be done, through systemic psychotherapy with a family, group or couple, or as an individual through psychodynamic psychotherapy.
